At Altruism Counseling Services, we believe that connection is one of the most powerful tools in recovery. That’s why we offer Peer Support Services (PSS) – so you can walk alongside someone who has lived through addiction, found recovery, and is now trained to help others do the same.

When you’re struggling with substance use or rebuilding your life, it’s easy to feel misunderstood or judged. Peer support changes that. It offers non-clinical, compassionate guidance from someone who gets it because they’ve lived it.

What Is Peer Support?

Peer Support is a recovery-focused service led by individuals with lived experience. These trained peer support specialists provide:

  • Emotional support during tough moments
  • Encouragement and motivation when recovery feels hard
  • Help navigating appointments, treatment plans, or legal requirements
  • Tips and tools based on real-world experience
  • A safe space to share without judgment
  • Connection to community resources, meetings, and groups

Our peer support team works closely with your clinical care team to help bridge the gap between treatment and everyday life. Whether you’re new to recovery or rebuilding after relapse, this added layer of support can make all the difference.

Why Peer Support Works

Because you’re not hearing it from a textbook, you’re hearing it from someone who’s lived it.

Peer support builds trust and hope in a way that’s hard to replicate. When you see someone living a stable, sober life who used to be where you are now, it shows what’s possible. It makes recovery feel real and reachable.

Recovery feels more possible when you’re walking alongside someone who truly gets it.

At Altruism Counseling Services, our peer specialists are certified, compassionate, and deeply committed to your success. They’re not here to tell you what to do – they’re here to listen, relate, encourage, and walk beside you.

How Peer Support Fits Into Your Recovery

Peer support is available to anyone enrolled in our outpatient programs, intensive outpatient program IOP, or case management services. Sessions can be held:

  • Stay accountable to your goals
  • Navigate barriers like triggers, cravings, or isolation
  • Build confidence to face challenges without substances

They’re part mentor, part motivator, part friend—and fully dedicated to your healing.
